I have lusted after this radio for years and years and years (well okay at first the IC-706... and then its further developed brothers). Finally I came up with an excuse to get it.. I wanted to listen to NIHON HOUSOU KYOUKAI ... or maybe if you believe an anime that I am watching, the NIHON HIKIKOMORI KYOUKAI ... but thats a joke.... for those who don't know, NHK is kinda like PBS maybe? ... it is the national radio/tv station of Japan. So I had my excuse. and... yappari, aikomu desu! ... I'm an icom guy... I don't know why.. but that way, Icom was founded in 1954 by Tokuzo Inoue, and is currently located in Osaka, Japan as AIKOMU KABUSHIKI-GAISHA) ... anyhow.. To be completely honest, I really would like a IC-7000 ... but because it is .. well should be out now... it lowered the prices of the IC706mkiig.. so wound up getting it...

Anyhow, for awhile it lived in the living room as such:

I've been meaning to run a ladder line up to the gutters, and make a folded dipole setup for it, but have yet to venture out to do it. However, recently (7/16/06), I've heard that a friend N5XZD is desiring to make a 6 meter contact. So I'm thinking about making a easy to dissamble and reassemble 3 element cubical quad antenna to use for 6 meters with it. Unfourtantly the tuner I ahve for it (tuner is seperate) is a random wire tuner not a impedance match tuner, so will have to see if I can come up with a way to use it, or I'll have to wind up and get an AT-180.

So far I've mostly used it for shortwave, although I've done a little bit of 2 meter FM work with it. I may attempt to set up something for November Sweepstakes. If possible I will try to run a non-grid station to get on with the emergency power station rating.
